Château Fort de Guédelon

At the centre of Puisaye, in the Yonne, Burgundy, fifty oeuvriers undertook an extraordinary challenge : to build a fortified castle in accordance with the techniques and materials used in the Middle Age.

In a natural space, they provided all the necessary materials to the construction : stone, wood, soil, sand, clay… and quarrymen, stonecutters, masons, woodcutters, carpenters, blacksmiths, tile makers, carters, weavers, tailpieces… bulit, day after day, an incredible castle in front of thousands of visitors.

The construction of this site started in 1997 and should take around 25 years.
